Historic 2,244 sq.ft. 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with formal dining room, 9′3″ ceilings and hardwood floors. Attached porte cochere and detached single-car garage. Wrap around porch/veranda. Sunporch and open floor plan with large eat-in kitchen. Permanent stairs to partially finished attic not counted as livable space. The house has been stabilized with a new roof using 30-year architectural shingles, electric with underground wiring and a repaired porte cochere with a new roof. As the house is not completely ready to move in yet, we will provide cost estimates for work still needed to be finished. Architectural blueprints, estimates and designer plans for kitchen and bath renovations and assistance to make application for funding and completing the NC Historic Tax Credits offering 15% tax savings are available.

The front of the house contains handsome rustic Stick Style detail and is supported by massive granite pillars connected by a chain railing. This railing continues along the south elevation connecting the pedestals of the uncovered terrace. The same granite pillars support the porte cochere which has molded projecting rafters. Completing the house’s rustic charm are stuccoed walls, king post truss work, a massive granite chimney and central entrance door with battered casing which tapers inward toward the top of the door. The living room and dining room exhibit Arts and Crafts style woodwork and finishes, while the bedrooms and hallway feature Colonial Revival style woodwork. Work still needing to be done includes:

  • Plumbing work has not been started yet
  • HVAC system needs to be installed.
  • Kitchen requires electric outlets and light fixtures. There are only three cabinets currently in place. One with a sink and faucet, one with counter and three drawers, and a full wall length floor to ceiling storage closet, with special features to accommodate a large range of spices. There are no appliances or adequate counter space. Kitchen floor needs to be replaced.
  • Bathrooms need electric outlets; lighting and the plumbing. The larger bath with a tub could be used with few upgrades if one desired quick use. The smaller bath requires floor repairs and improved fixtures.
  • Interior painting will require prep work to repair any wall plaster damage prior to priming
  • Fireplaces (3) need to be inspected for use. There are two gas fireplaces and one wood burning. The kitchen once had a wood burning stove which is no longer there but could be replaced. We have cleaned out the attic storage areas, removed all carpet and tack boards including on the permanent stairs, and removed ceiling tiles and deteriorated insulation. To make this space completely livable a few adjustments need to be made.
    • The carpet and tack boards have been moved with no refinishing work done yet to the wood floors or the permanent stairs.
    • Ceiling requires new insulation and finish work.
    • The upstairs bathroom is not up to today’s code. It needs electric outlets and light fixture but does have the plumbing ready to be updated. This could be a perfect half bath.
    The house has been stabilized with a new roof and porte cohere but still needs a bit of work to give the curb appeal we welcome!
    • Prep work prior to painting with stucco, masonry and wood repairs
    • Exterior painting of house and detached single car garage
    • Workshop will need to be evaluated if it should stay or go with work to support that decision.
    • Some glass work is necessary on the French door off the dining room, back porch door and several windows.
    • Front Porch needs tile work on the front left side.
    The house is located in the West Nash Historic District within a few steps from the desirable Cavalier neighborhood and walking/biking distance to the downtown commercial district Wilson is a quaint southern town with a population of just over 50,000. Wilson’s location is 40 minutes to Raleigh, an hour to the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, two hours to the beach and five hours to the mountains.
